Project Description
In the summer of 2017, I worked as an intern for 704 Games, which required a minimum of 160 hours over the span of six weeks. I was put on a team with nine other talented students to create a prototype mobile game in Unity. For this, I worked with another level designer to design obstacles, tracks, environments for the game. We really had to focus on the core mechanics of the game and what makes it fun. The product we were able to come up with was definitely flawed in certain ways. However, our employer was pleased with our work and allowed us to go forward with development in the following semester.
The following semester, the team grew larger as well as the scope of the levels. Because of this, we decided that going forward we would use Github Version Control. This allowed for more frequent tweaks and updates to the game's tracks and environments. This time around, we were tasked with building the alpha and beta stages of the game. Most, if not all of the levels built in the summer, had to be reworked or completely replaced. Throughout this semester, there were things we had to consider when designing the tracks. Flow, pacing, scale, and color were just some of the thing we had to focus on. With the concept art done by our amazing art team, we were able to produce some very interesting and unique tracks. Overall, I am very proud of what my colleagues and I were able to produce this semester and I am excited to see where it is going forward.
